My black 2018 has (what I consider) a ridiculous amount of chips in the hood, bumper, etc. The car has only 25,000 miles and 20K of those were put on by me. Does anyone else see this or is it just me? Is there a paint quality issue? I'm not a big tailgater but a lot of my miles are on the highway. These uncovered dump trucks infuriate me spilling their crap all over the road.
The thing is, I've never noticed this issue with other cars I've driven. My last car had over 150,000 miles and I swear it had less dings in the hood than this car does at 25. Thoughts?

I have a micro blue with near 29,000 miles. we picked it up a couple of thousand miles ago. as I went around the car inspecting it I looked for paint issues. it has what I consider surprisingly few road rash spots in front. I touched up what there are with a kia touchup pen. then there are cases like yours where an excessive amount of road rash is experienced. but unless paint is actively lifting off I wouldn't suspect an actual paint quality issue. you can touchup and keep up. if it will provide any solution, here is a thread I posted a few days ago about touchup. What I've learned the hard way from touchup projects.

I had one….ONE black car and I will never have another. The black paint showed every single chip and scratch like they had been circled by a sharpie. We had it shipped by rail for a couple of thousand miles (moved). Boy was that a mistake….the front end was just pepperd by very small paint chips. It was also the only car (colour) I had to wash after waxing as the wax dust made it look dirty. What you are seeing may be just the nature of black paint.
