Anyone replace input shaft seal on their own?

I'm confident I could completely swap a transmission in my garage. But I dont think I could program the new one easily?

I've tried looking online for pictures without the torque converter attached to transmission and ive looked up seals to see what it looks like. So far I keep finding the same type of seal that looks like a typical press in.

I just don't want to go to the dealer. I've got 5k left extended warranty but it's a ripoff and they won't honor a thing because "stealership". Last time I talked to a tech he told me they don't service differentials, they just replace them when they blow up which is conveniently outside factory warranty mileage.
 
TCC seals are usually o-rings. Teflon rings are used for most of the other shaft seals, but not usually the TCC. I haven't seen the stinger's, specifically. Buying that seal on its own might be a challenge, but I haven't spent much time trying to find parts for newer trans (I'm stuck in the 70's through 90's). Your local trans shop might be helpful.
The trans doesn't have to be programmed - the TCU has to be programmed. If you're swapping an equivalent trans then there shouldn't be any programming necessary. There's no "pairing" between the TCU and trans like there is between a gauge cluster and ECU.
Getting the exhaust out of the way is usually the hardest part. The trickiest is getting the car high enough to get the trans out from underneath. The Harbor Freight trans jack is pretty good, but the trans *will* try to slip off and crush you. Check the service manual for any special alignment procedures - some auto trans require alignment jigs when installing the torque converter or adapter plates.

It's completely normal for dealerships to replace instead of repair. Do you really want the typical dealer tech trying to set up a new ring and pinion? It's better for everyone to just get the assembly from the factory and plunk it in. Same with engines - do you want a tech to assemble an engine? Usually the OEM will have an assembled short block, so the dealer only has to install heads, intake, etc.

I always tell people not to get extended warranties. They make them look like they cover things but there's 1000 loopholes in them that end up denying basically anything that actually happens.
Extended warranties are just a voluntary multi thousand dollar bonus you give the sales person.
