at start up it just seems crazy that they let the platform go with such a loud tick , i hate it ! the first time i heard it in the garage i thought my motor was rapping bad .
iknow the reason is the tappet is a solid lifter type that is noisy but .... anyone know of someone developing some fix ?

it's pretty much most direct injection engines hpfp sounds.... just google excessive noise high pressure fuel pump lexus etc, it garnered so many complaints they updated the insulation over the fuel pump and also recommend people get the sound jacket from the ls models to put on their lower models to try and help the noise..

Maybe this another advantage of gunshot ears: I think that my engine runs quietly on startup: it begins with slightly higher revs, then after half a minute or so the revs drop and I drive away.

My BMW had the metallic/diesel clank on startup and a little while after. It would go away, but yeah, direct injection. My SS 1LE makes a strange "servo noise" for about a second when I open the door for a cold start, it's the fuel pump priming the system, but it sounds nothing like a fuel pump (nor is it annoying). You don't hear the fuel pumps after start though, hah.
